In the 1960s The Voriodimotes of Sparti who immigrated to Australia found themselves in an unfamiliar environment and culture. They were faced with feelings of isolation and hardship as they were unable to speak the language and the need to surround themselves with other Greek people from the same region helped them bond together to keep alive their culture, identity, customs and traditions.

A group of Voriodimotes decided to form an association so that citizens from the northern suburbs of Sparta living in Sydney and NSW could maintain their cultural ties. A meeting of the Voriodimotes was held at the Riviera Lounge, 283 Liverpool Rd, Ashfield on 25 April 1972, where the decision was taken to form a club and the first Committee was elected. The Association was named Association of Northern Municipalities of Sparta "Beautiful Eleni". Since then, the Association has continued to grow, with many successful social events such as dances, barbecues, afternoon tea, excursions, picnics and events focusing on culture and history. The Association has also raised funds to help people in need and has regularly donated to many charities in NSW and overseas.

With the support of its members and the efforts of the Boards of Directors, our Association began to plan for the future with the aim of gaining financial independence and ownership. In the 1970s and 1980s, the Annual Balls were organised, with the crowning of Miss Orea Eleni, to raise money for the Association. Over the years, many events helped the Association’s financial position and in June 1993 the Association was able to purchase an apartment in Dulwich Hill. In 2022 we celebrated our 50 years anniversary with a commemorative dance at Kyle Bay to celebrate this milestone/ We also producted an anniversary album as a legacy of the past.

We have much more to give. We owe it to those who founded the association and have served it with selflessness and responsibility, to those who support and trust us, and to all our members, our friends and our supporters. Orea Eleni's members together with the Board of Directors, continue the vision of the founding members with the goal to keep the dream alive.

The executive committees

The committees have been elected to represent the members and manage the affairs of the organisation. We thank the previous committees that volunteered their time and efforts to promote the cause of Orea Eleni.
